ZEBRE Pty Ltd (ZEBRE), backed by Taiwan listed HD Renewable Energy (HDRE, TWSE: 6873), will work with Greensteel on firmed renewable electricity and behind-the-meter storage for Greensteel’s future Australian steelmaking operations.
The partnership represents another major milestone in Greensteel’s rapid progress towards building Australia’s first ultra-low-emissions steel mill.
Under the agreement, Greensteel will work alongside ZEBRE and HDRE, leveraging their broader renewable energy and battery storage capabilities to explore large-scale renewable electricity supply, energy firming and storage solutions required to power Greensteel’s Australian operations.
ZEBRE brings a significant renewable energy and storage portfolio to the partnership, including 437MW renewable energy portfolio in South Australia, together with its battery storage and dispatch capabilities. This includes the operational Templers Battery Project and the Solar River Hybrid Solar and Storage Project. The parties will also explore the development of a 400MW large-scale battery system integrated with behind-the-meter storage and power management systems, to improve energy reliability.
Both parties will continue progressing discussions towards a definitive commercial agreement, while assessing future opportunities to expand renewable power supply and storage capacity in line with Greensteel’s long-term development plans. The partnership represents another significant step in aligning large-scale renewable energy infrastructure with the future of Australian heavy industry and sovereign manufacturing capability.
